I always wanted to be a writer. Always. However, after twelve years in a parochial school system I decided that rules weren’t really my thing. When I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications I found myself wondering what I was going to do for employment. I needed a job that wasn’t confining; that didn’t include too many unnecessary rules.
For the sake of argument, I think we must clarify my view of “rules”. Gravity is a rule. Grammar is a rule. Common sense should be a rule. Some rules stand fast (gravity), some rules bend (grammar) and some rules are ignored all together (common sense).
What I didn’t want running my career at all times was politics, bureaucracy or The Man. I wanted to work within the Institution professionally, but have the freedom to conduct myself outside its parameters when I saw fit.
Hence, my career as a freelance writer and my further training as a qualified professional from American Writer’s and Artist’s Inc. (AWAI), one of the premier copywriting courses in the country.
These days I’m making a very nice living doing exactly what I love. It’s the kind of passion and knowledge (perhaps even a slight irreverence) that I believe every business could always use a little bit more of. Including yours.
